Dinorwig Slate Quarry / by Andrew Wilson

Lately I've made a few short trips to North Wales to see family and friends. During one trip back my Mum and I went to the Dinorwig slate quarry to have a wander around and take some photos of this unique place.

I wasn't aware of this, but my parents lived close to this quarry, and when I was a baby she would take me for walks to the slate quarry. So before we arrived at the quarry she showed me the house we lived in:

The house is in Gallt-y-foel, halfway between Deiniolen and Dinorwig.

It was the first time I'd seen this house since then, so it was nice for my Mum to share this with me and show me a part of my past. It was also a bit strange to see somewhere I once lived that I have no memory of. As we were driving along narrow country roads I could only take a look at it from the car window, but I still got a good view of surroundings and the view in the distance.

After parking up just off Minffordd we made our way along a walking path to the quarry. Once we made it up we were greeted by mountainous views and a long wall of a building from the heyday of the slate quarry. Here are a few of the photos I took:

Thanks for taking a look at my blog and photos. It's always a pleasure to soak up the scenery of North Wales when I go back home. I enjoyed my time visiting this unique place, especially being so used to city life! Hopefully I will visit again in the future.

Special thanks goes to my mum for driving me over and showing me around!
