After a hectic few months of getting on the property ladder and moving into a new home, things have calmed down and I feel like I'm starting to get on top of things, including getting back to my photography.
To me the photo above, taken days after moving in, reflects this. One morning while eating my breakfast, I couldn't help but enjoy the morning sunlight spilling into our dining area. It was a quiet little moment, somewhat relaxing and satisfying after the whole process of buying a house.
As it's been a while since my last blog post I thought I would put together a little update of recent photo-related activity. Here's a bit of what I've been up to...
7 Day Black & White Challenge - Just before we moved I was challenged by Elise Weir to a little photo challenge...
...I had to post one black and white photo of anything from my day, for a week. There could be no people in the photo and no caption or explanation...
...This drew me towards slightly abstract photos, and once I went for a square format for the first post I decided to do this for the rest...
...For some reason I felt this added to the abstraction.
Needing a bit of a break from the house I visited Sefton Park and the Palm House.
Giving macro photography a go has given me a new appreciation for the detail in plants.
I will head back again to photograph the unique plants in the Palm House.
After leaving the Palm House I stumbled across this tree that had tumbled over.
Macro photography has been an on & off project for the past few months. I'm looking forward to sharing some results soon.
It was my family's annual trip to the Lakes at the end of November. This time I remembered my tripod!
I wanted to have a play with longer exposures to see what I could learn.
I also went for a walk with my brother, which unexpectedly took us up Lingmoor Fell. It was pretty chilly and windy!
We only intended to go for a short walk but kept going to the top!
I returned to Cathedral Quarry to explore it more and take a few new photos of it.
It was my 32nd birthday during the week in the Lakes. Hannah treated me with a homemade cake...

This body of photography by Fan Ho captured the atmosphere and everyday life of Hong Kong during the 1950's and 60's.
As a birthday/early Christmas treat I got myself this new bit of kit...what could it be?! I'm sure you can guess! I'm looking forward to getting to grips with it.
